All done!

Late last night I finished my first building project ... ever.  Aside from the ship that I made in 7th grade wood shop, but still.

So, here was the inspiration piece.  It's the Logan collection TV stand, available at Pottery Barn.  The cost is $799, plus shipping, plus a $75 surcharge for delivery.

And here's my TV stand.  Total cost, about $200, but only because I had to buy a few extra things like drill bits, sanding blocks, a table saw ... you know, tool stuff.  So, there's probably about $50 worth of materials invested in the stand itself.

My next order of business are end tables.  I'm either going to start on them today, or wrap up some quilting that I need to finish, haven't decided yet.

That looks great! $50 is such a better price! I was wondering what type of wood you used for it.

Fantastic job, Christy! Love it in white. Your finish looks great in the pic--did you spray it or use brushes?

Thanks for sharing--can't wait to try one of Ana's projects myself.

To answer some questions:

I used mostly MDF, and trimmed it out in poplar. I did make a modification to her plans and the doors are made using 1/2" MDF and 1/4" MDF for the trim. It was all I could find, but the measurements are the same.

I painted it by hand and if I could offer any advice it would be to use a good primer first and make sure that you're sanding between all of your coats. I did two coats of primer and two coats of paint. We have a house with two boys - I didn't want to have to worry about scratched up paint. I also did a light sanding at the end to sort of eliminate any brush strokes you could see. The paint color is from Valspar and it's called "Quail Egg".

Hope that helps!

Great job! Was it difficult to build? I want to try something like that, too, but I'm a little scared.

Looks amazing. I am about to start my first knockoffwood project today so I hope my farm house table turns out as good as your tv stand.

I'm SO impressed! I've been wanting to try of the her plans for a while now and you have inspired me on this one. Great job! Looks JUST like the real thing and such a steal...minus the table saw! I sent the link to the plans to my dad and hope to head to his place to make this one soon. He has a table saw. ;)

Great job!! Just wondering how large of a tv it holds.

Christy said...

Romaida, the stand is 62" long, so I imagine it could hold a TV that fits within it's dimensions. As for strength, it's a pretty solid unit and should be able to hold a good amount of weight. Especially if you used a nice sturdy wood!
